Crime Reduction through Forensic Coding

The impact of SmartWater as a criminal deterrent is becoming increasingly apparent every day. Police forces across the nation are using and supporting The SmartWater Strategy, and most importantly criminals are taking notice – living with the fear of being caught and convicted of crimes long after they have taken place.

The following stories highlight the success of The SmartWater Strategy when deployed by regional police as part of their crime reduction initiatives. Each success story gives information detailing the specifics of the crime reduction strategy as well as their objectives, and examples of the press coverage that each initiative achieved.

SmartWater helps The Flying Squad to convict cash in transit robber
G4S Cash Services (UK), the leading provider of cash solutions, first partnered with SmartWater to develop a new product to protect its cash delivery couriers in October 2007.

The group of armed robbers were caught because they got too cocky
From May 2005 to May 2007 a gang of armed robbers committed nine robberies on high class jewellery shops in Birmingham, Chester, Cheltenham, Harrogate and St Albans as well as Jeremy France Jewellers in Winchester.

The number of quad bikes stolen has been reduced by more than a third
Prior to the introduction of SmartWater just 200 farmers across Cumbria were actively involved in neighbourhood watch schemes, which had seen the number of quad bike thefts spiral by 184 per cent since 2001.

Almost all Church of England churches will be protected by SmartWater
In 2007 Ecclesiastical Insurance Group received almost 1,700 claims at a cost of £5.25m for the theft of mainly lead from church roofs, as well as other items from within churches.
