Chesterfield Home and vehicle protection
Protection for both vehicles and homes is being offered in Newbold and Brockwell thanks to a joint initiative involving Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership, the Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) for the area and Chesterfield Borough Council’s Housing Services department.

The three week initiative will start with a series of visits to different locations in the area where residents can take their vehicles to have SmartWater applied to them.

SmartWater is invisible to the naked eye but glows under ultra-violet light and is impossible to remove entirely.  Each vehicle will be marked in a number of places with its own SmartWater. This means the vehicle or property from it can be linked without question to its owner and criminals to the crime scene.

As a follow-on from this, vehicle owners will be offered a home visit by members of the Newbold and Brockwell SNT to have valuables in their home marked with SmartWater too. The home visits will be done on a first come, first served basis with residents able to book an appointment for the SNT to call.

Two weeks have been allocated for the home visits in the hope that residents will be able to select a time to suit them.

Commenting on the initiative, Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership Sergeant Les Rawson said: “SmartWater is a very effective deterrent and those whose vehicles are marked with it should feel reassured about their chance of being a victim of vehicle crime. It is equally effective for home protection and the Partnership is delighted to be able to help out with this project.”
