A PROLIFIC car thief caught in a police sting has been banned from touching cars.
Imran Khan was jailed for 120 days after he broke into an unmarked car fitted with hidden cameras and a SmartWater spray system at an NCP car park in Stoney Street, Nottingham. The 27-year-old was already the subject of an antisocial behavior order banning him from entering car parks in the city centre. On his release from prison Khan will be under a further asbo prohibiting him from entering car parks, carrying a screwdriver, or touching any motor vehicle without the permission of the owner.
Magistrates heard Khan was caught on camera on December 7 last year breaking into the front passenger door of a police capture car and opening the glove box. He also had SmartWater sprayed on him which linked him with the crime scene. Khan, of Tunstall Crescent, Aspley, admitted attempted theft from a motor vehicle, breaching an asbo and asked for more than 40 further car crimes to be taken into consideration.
Inspector Paul Winter said: “Some criminals think that if no one is about then it is safe to break into a car, however they should think again, as we routinely deploy capture cars in the city centre. Khan is the second prolific car park thief caught by a special police team set up to combat city-centre crime.
