Newcastle custody suite opens

CROOKS are on the run, thanks to wonder water that sprays them with a dye which is only visible under special lights.

Criminals can argue until they’re blue in the face they had nothing to do with a crime but, once the SmartWater light is shone on them, any part of their clothing or body that’s been sprayed shows up a vivid shade of green.

Newcastle Police have installed a security arch at their custody area that uses SmartWater lights. Everyone arrested steps through the arch and, if they’ve been in contact with SmartWater they will glow green.

Crooks arrested for crimes such as drink-driving can be caught for other offences as it’s easy to trace the SmartWater code back to a theft location. Homeowners can also paint SmartWater onto their valuables and the clear, odorless liquid dries to an invisible coating that remains unseen.

Churches see SmartWater as a heaven-sent opportunity to stop metal thieves, by using it on church roofs. Some supermarkets have installed sprinklers that drench thieves in a mist of SmartWater. In Blackpool, police are using a double whammy against car thieves, using “rat trap” decoy cars filled with hidden CCTV cameras and covered with SmartWater.

The cars are left in car crime hot spots, and thieves who break in find they’ve been caught on camera and stained with SmartWater — a combination that leads to instant “guilty” pleas.
